Several York County Libraries are hosting special events in celebration of Give Local York this year. The annual “24 hours” of giving in support of York County nonprofits will be held from 9:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, May 2. According to event organizers, community members came together to raise a record amount of $5.27 million for 330 local nonprofits in 2024.
“Give Local York truly shines a spotlight on the hundreds of dedicated nonprofit organizations in our community,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “It is heartwarming to see how our individual missions, and the work that we each do, collectively make York County a healthy and vibrant place to live.”
According to Lambert, York County Libraries have participated in Give Local York since its start eight years ago. All 13 libraries plan to participate again this year, and some have created special activities to celebrate Give Local York.
This year, Village Library is joining House of Hope in the parking lot of Smith Village Home Furnishings, 34 N. Main Street in Jacobus. The event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, and will include a book sale, food trucks, and more. There will also be crafts for the kids and additional books for sale at the library, located across the street at 35-C N. Main Street. The library will be open for extended hours from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
In Stewartstown, Mason-Dixon Public Library is one of seven local nonprofits participating in a block party packed with games, activities, live music and food. Festivities will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 2 at the Aviator Brew Hub, 18 S. Main Street, and at the Stewartstown United Methodist Church, 26 S. Main Street.
Martin Library in York City is holding the opening reception of the “Do my Feelings Matter? Teen Art Exhibit” from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 2. Community members are invited to view the work of area teens and vote for a fan favorite. The Juried show, supported by the Cultural Alliance of York County and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, runs through Friday, May 16 during regular operating hours.
The events include Family Fun Night at Red Land Community Library from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 2. There will be fun activities including bingo, trivia and food. The library is located at 70 Newberry Commons in the Newberry Commons Shopping Center in Etters. Registration is encouraged but not required at events.yorklibraries.org.
In Glen Rock, Arthur’s Friends will celebrate Give Local York with Happy Hour from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 2 at Table 1837 - Glen Rock Mill Inn, 50 Water Street. The event includes appetizers, a Yeti raffle, and an opportunity to help the Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock raise the final funds needed for repairs to reopen its doors.
York County Libraries include 13 libraries that provide the latest in print and digital information, bestsellers, Wi-Fi, story times, book discussions and databases. Their extensive collection includes over 560,000 items and one million digital library materials for loan. All are available for free with a York County Libraries card. Community members without a card are invited to request one at yorklibraries.org at no cost.
